I have just completed my listening/reading of Music and Silence and it massively reinforces for me the trust that I have come to place in Rose Tremain. I did not find this a comfortable book, but I did find it compelling. Tremain has a genuine capacity to get into characters' heads, so sharing their worlds and thoughts with us.   Listen to your favorite songs from Silence In The Snow (Special Edition) by Trivium Now. Then, in a skillfully presented array of increasingly interlocking narratives (each keyed to a different character's consciousness), Tremain explores a considerable range of human responses to, and involvements with, the overt expressiveness of "music'' and the "silence'' that pervades hearts and minds given to introversion and secrecy.

The book reveals that unexpected concepts and ways of thinking emerge from looking at sound in relation to its antithesis, encompassing not just Western art traditions, but the relationship between music, silence, the human psyche and sociological trends - ultimately, providing deeper understanding of the elemental places both music and silence hold within world philosophies and fundamental.

In this book, different disciplines - history, music analysis, psychology, cognition, performance practices, social practices, music therapy, religious studies, philosophy - intersect in considering the multiplicity of relationships that exist between music and silence.

The main historical event depicted is the end of Christian's second marriage, to Kirsten Munk, and the start of his third, to Vibeke Kruse.

However, I chose to read Andrea Bocelli's autobiography, "The Music of Silence: A Memoir," out of curiosity for this man whose voice has the warmth of a cozy fire, resonance of a cello, and familiar tone of a father's words/5.

The contributions in this volume focus on the ways in which silence and music relate, contemplate each other and provide new avenues for addressing and gaining understanding of various realms of human endeavour.

The book maps out this little-explored aspect 5/5(1). After two acclaimed full-length indie releases and extensive touring in Europe and the U.S., Blindside has signed with Elektra for their major label debut, Silence, which was produced by Howard Benson (P.O.D., Sepultura, Motorhead, many more)/5().

The contrast between music and ambient silence or sounds is powerful. Obviously there’s the John Cage example, but another interesting example is the re-scoring of the Japanese animated film “Castle In The Sky” for American audiences.

But a more interesting approach is to recognize and take advantage of the fact that silence and incidental noise can be made into fundamental parts of the musical texture. They can be as much a component of the sound of your music as a bass line.

Here are some ways that you can start to use silence and noise in your own music. The notion of silence (or as Cage philosophizes, the lack thereof) has informed both my thinking and my playing.

Surprisingly in his book titled "Silence," Cage talks very little about his most seminal work. And that's okay. The book is still appropriately named as he takes the notions of /5.

There were a couple of songs that I pass over when I am really not in the mood for slower stuff but I still like the songs. I saw them live and bought the album afterward because they were amazing life and was superisingly disappointed in how the cd sounds compared to the live show, even though the /5().
